Great!
It's my first small pipes set.i needed one because living in apartment doesn't really allow me to play my great Highland pipes. After some help from gibson in how to tune my set, both the A and Bb i now can play my pipes. Looking forward to another set of fireside pipes
Thanks again
Frank
Plays in tune, Love it
I contacted Gibson with a somewhat interesting request: I wanted all three of their smallpipe chanters (A, B-flat, and D) made such that the holes were not inset and rather flushed with the surface of the chanter. They were happy to fulfill this custom request. The chanters arrived promptly (within less than a month) and worked excellently with stable and clear tone. Having the holes more simply designed has allowed me to more finely tune the chanters and I really appreciate Gibson Bagpipes for working with me on this request.
I highly recommend this hole design for pipers who do not need the assistance of "shaped" holes to find their fingering position. Some makers will argue that concave (inset) holes give a bigger sound to the chanter, but I have not found this the case. If you want a bigger sound, a slightly harder reed is the better solution. Getting flushed holes (not inset) allows for better and easier fine-tuning of the notes with tape since you are directly affecting the hole with the tape rather than taping a concavity above the hole, which tends to give less precise and predictable results since the tape will warp into the concavity with playing.
I only wish Gibson made more chanters in more keys! I requested F and C (and would even love a low-D) if they ever got the whim to make these. I would eagerly buy them all!
Very satisfied thank you!
