Our African Blackwood Practice Chanter with Imitation Ivory combines traditional bagpipe materials with a lighter, balanced setup.

African Blackwood is an extremely dense and stable hardwood widely used in professional-quality Great Highland Bagpipes. It is valued for its durability, consistency, and refined feel, making it a natural choice for players who want a premium wooden practice instrument.

This version features a lightweight imitation ivory sole and stainless steel ferrule, giving the chanter a traditional appearance without the additional weight of solid engraved nickel fittings.

Every Gibson practice chanter now includes our new Moisture-Control Top as standard. The removable mouthpiece helps manage moisture during regular practice, while the open internal design avoids adding noticeable airflow resistance and preserves the familiar response and playing characteristics of the Gibson practice chanter line.

Because African Blackwood is a natural material, subtle variations in color and grain will occur from one chanter to another.
